It's funny, everyone hears about the Exchange and such, but don’t know exactly how it works. The broker sat on those stools on the floor in there, right? Inside. And outside, were the frogs, right? They were watching, just to see how it was. The sellers and speculators. The large speculators, who were there - how were they called? Siciliano? Conde Siciliano, Almeida Prado, these people would often change their broker, so no one would know who their broker was. They were large speculators, so if everyone knew that it was their broker and he was buying. "The Sicilians are buying" and everyone would buy. He’s selling - everybody would sell. Nobody knew who their broker was. So he would be on one side and the broker could be on the other side, on a stool. He had signals with the broker, to buy or sell - or do nothing. He would pull on his ear as a signal to buy. Touch his nose to sell, understand? Play with his beard to do nothing. So that was it - you do nothing, the client did not give the order out loud to the broker to "buy" or "sell" or what ever because it would influence the market. So he had these signals with your broker. (Alvaro Vieira da Cunha, A., 2011, p.4-5)
