História Oral Project
Followed by historiographical tendencies in 20th century, from expansion of horizon to understand what “historical document” is, the oral documentation is used as essential tool for registration of people memories which, without it, would continue in anonymity of history.
Hence, the goal of projects of Oral History developed by Museu do Café is to search more people who worked or had contact with coffee, from plantation to preparation of drink. As generally it’s directed for perspective of daily techniques of a specific work – baggers, economists, shoreworker, barista -, neither great previous knowledge nor life experience are required.
Therefore, the applied methodology is based on works Manual de História Oral by Verena Alberti, and História Falada: memória, rede e mudança social, Sesc-SP publication, with partnership with Museu da Pessoa, which deals with approach of interviews and from preparation of guides to recording and documentation of copyrights. After registration, the transcription of captured audio in its totality is done.
For choosing interviewees, the relationship with coffee and working period was prioritized. People who worked from 1940 to 1980 was chosen, only 1st degree of deponents, i.e., had direct relationship with object under study, and not their descendants.
